Show on the Second World War
dau blentynAnother activity that drew the children’s attention to the history of their forefathers was the “Glenys y Siop” show. The children dressed up in authentic costumes and took on the role of the various characters who visited the shop with their ration books. Everyone was astonished to learn about the rations and the amount of food available for a family for a whole week. Also mentioned was the impact that the Second World War had on different parts of Wales and of the great fires in Swansea. Thanks to the actress Anwen Carlisle for entertaining and educating us.

Ysgwrn, Cwm Celyn and Mari Jones World

Yr YsgwrnYear four pupils recently went on a memorable trip to the Ysgwrn, Hedd Wyn’s home and had the privilege of meeting Gerald, before proceeding to Mari Jones`s World in Bala in the afternoon. The weather was favourable; quite a change, after all the snowfall. It was a delight to gaze out through the coach`s window on the way to Meirionnydd, and see the panoramic views; spring in the air and lambs in the fields. Before we knew it we arrived at this incredible spot in the Prysor valley.
It was thrilling to have the opportunity to learn about the poet’s talents and the story of the black chair. The pupils listened in awe to the horrors of this unspeakable period in our history; a period that had a terrible impact on families, our language and culture. We were stunned when learning about the losses suffered by Trawsfynydd, and by similar villages in rural Wales.
Onwards to Llyn Celyn, and another history lesson that it is crucial that it be kept in our young people’s memory. The pupils found it difficult to understand the logic of drowning an entire valley. Mr Walter Williams was born in that valley and Mr Williams is always ready to assist us by answering all the pupils` questions and has taught us many interesting facts. Did you know that on August 1st, 1957, the senate in London passed an act authorizing the drowning of Cwm Tryweryn? It was during this period that the “ Cadw Tryweryn” rally was organized and over 4,000 people marched through the streets of Y Bala to show their opposition. An entire community was drowned including twelve farms, a school, post office, chapel and the cemetery. And the financial cost was £20 million. And the cost to the area? Incalculable!
Byd Mari Jones was the next stop! Mari Jones, another famous person, who walked all the way from from Llanfihangel-y-Pennant to Bala to buy a Bible from Thomas Charles. There were quizzes, computer games, films and various activities there to entertain the pupils and everybody enjoyed the experience. A special day.

Moel Wnion Fell Race

Ras Moel Wnion Last Saturday, the day of the Moel Wnion race was an outstanding success!

There were 52 runners from a wide area to Ysgol Llanllechid, and they all succeeded in running up Moel Wnion.

As well as this race, childrens’ races were held on the school field under Mr Stephen Jones’ supervision.

It was an amazing day, blue skies and a lovely atmosphere with everything running like clockwork.

A special thank you to Dr Ross Roberts (father of Evie and Harri) for his work in arranging the event and huge thanks to all committee members.

I would like to thank all members of the P.T.A. and everyone who worked hard in the kitchen, especially Aunty Gillian, who was just out of hospital! All the cakes and leek soup were extremely tasty and the runners and spectators devoured the lot!

It was great to see the school working effectively with members of the community; all the parents` support and contributions was key to the event’s success.

Thanks to everyone who came along to support the event.

Chwarel Pantdreiniog, Bethesda (Welsh only available)
Bu dosbarthiadau Bl.3 a 4 yn ymchwilio drwy astudio hen luniau ac yn trafod y newid a fu yn safle Pantdreiniog dros 200 mlynedd yn ôl. Aethpwyd am dro i weld y safle presennol, sy`n wrthgyferbyniad llwyr o`r hyn a fu. Erbyn heddiw, mae`n lle tawel, gwyrdd, a heddychlon iawn. Craffwyd ar ddarluniau o’r lle ym 1825, pan oedd y lle’n llawn o adeiladau, siediau o bob math, trên ar gledrau, a gweithwyr prysur ymhobman. Yn y lluniau roedd pobl bwysig e.e swyddogion y chwarel mewn siwtiau crand, yn ogystal â’r gweithwyr cyffredin. Mae lluniau o’r safle yn y 70au yn dangos twll anferthol, gyda sbwriel wedi ei daflu iddo. Roedd y plant wedi synnu fod cannoedd o hen geir rhydlyd wedi eu taflu yng nghanol pob math o sbwriel i’r twll enfawr! Lle llwm tywyll a pheryglus wedi ei weddnewid!

Gweithdy Arbed Ynni (Welsh only available...)
Bu rhai o`r disgyblion hynaf yn cymryd rhan mewn gweithdy hynod ddiddorol yn seiliedig ar arbed ynni yn y cartref. Bu’r disgyblion yn dysgu am wahanol ffyrdd o ynysu’r cartref, gan fynd ati i gyfrifo’r arbedion. Cafodd y disgyblion gyfle i gynllunio cartrefi ar gyfer y dyfodol gyda’r syniad o arbed ynni a gwarchod yr amgylchedd, a chynlluniwyd cartrefi diddorol dros ben, i ddweud y lleiaf! Wyddoch chi fod modd arbed bron i £90 y flwyddyn wrth droi’r thermostat i lawr 1 °C ?! Os oes angen cyngor arnoch ar sut i arbed ynni yn eich cartref, dewch draw at flwyddyn 5, dosbarth Mr Stephen Jones i holi!

Ymweliad ag Amgueddfa Beatles, Lerpwl (Welsh only available...)
Fel rhan o’r gwaith ar y chwedegau aeth dosbarth Mr Stephen Jones ar ymweliad ag Amgueddfa Beatles yn Lerpwl. Roedd hi`n brofiad a hanner teithio ar hyd llwybr y Beatles, gan wrando’n astud ar yr hanes drwy ddefnyddio ffonau clust pwrpasol. Anhygoel oedd cael ymweld â’r ‘Cavern Club’ a blasu bywyd yn y chwedegau drwy weithgareddau megis gwisgo gwisgoedd amryliw a chreu Celf Pop! Mwynhaodd y disgyblion floeddio clasuron megis ‘Yellow Submarine’ a ‘Hey Jude’ tra’n cael cyfle i gyfansoddi. Cyfle gwych i brofi bywyd yn y chwedegau!

Halen Môn (Welsh only available...)
Halen Môn Fel rhan o'u gwaith gwyddoniaeth, bu disgyblion blwyddyn 6 yn ymweld â chwmni Halen Môn gan ddysgu sut maent yn creu halen. Bu'r disgyblion yn arsylwi pa ddeunyddiau sydd yn hydoddi ac yn creu toddiant e.e. siwgwr a halen, a pha ddeunyddiau sydd ddim yn hydoddi ac felly yn creu cymysgedd. Dysgodd y plant fod posib hidlo y cymysgeddau ond nad oedd yn bosib hidlo'r toddiant. A dyma'r broses sydd yn digwydd yn Halen Môn - mae'r dwr môr yn cael ei anweddu yn y crisialydd sydd yn arwain at swmp yr halen yn ffurfio. Diolch i Eluned am ein tywys ac am yr hanesion difyr - gan gynnwys dysgu fod y Mor Marw yn cynnwys 30% o halen o gymharu a 3% o halen sydd yn y môr o amgylch Cymru. Ond hyd yn oed gyda 3%, mae cwmni Halen Môn yn fusnes llwyddiannus sydd yn ffynnu ac yn allforio halen i bedwar ban byd.

Litter and Waste
peopleOur Green Group led by Mr Stephen Jones, have enlightened everybody on how to look after the environment. They made us all feel ashamed when realizing how heedless we are when throwing litter, without realizing that much of this litter is washed into the streams, rivers and the sea. We know the catastrophic impact on wildlife, and we were all troubled whilst watching David Attenborough’s programme..
The Green Group are doing their utmost to ensure that the school grounds remain clean and tidy, as well as Lon Bach Odro and Llyn Corddi and, as you know, representatives from the school held a great litter picking event around Maes Bleddyn with the Balchder Bro team form the village. However, we cannot rest on our laurels!
When studying aspects of consevation, we discovered an interesting fact: on January 29 this year, twenty nine sperm whales had run aground on beaches around the North Sea. Unfortunately, a large number of them died, and what has become apparent is that the stomachs of the whales were full of plastic, including a 13m length fishing net; plastic from cars etc Ironic fact: full stomachs causing hunger.
childrenAnother Message from the Green Group is that it is not large pieces of plastic that cause problems; the small pieces e.g. those found in toothpaste also cause serious damage to the food chain.
Did you know that as a country we try to cope with the fact that China has now refused to receive our litter and plastic? We have, for some time, been sending 500,000 tonnes of waste annually to China for re-cycling. It is consequently a considerable challenge to the authorities to think about another solution, and our Green Group have been full of ideas. Their clear message is: please don’t produce so much litter, re-cycle, use less plastic and use the bins! Thanks very much!

Jonsi and the Air Ambulance
Jonsi a`r Ambiwlans AwyrFollowing the visit by Years 3 and 4 classes to Caernarfon Airport at Dinas Dinlle, Mr Eifion Jones [Jonsi], Air Ambulance Marketing Officer visited to talk with the pupils, and answer their questions in his own amusing way. The children had already seen the pilot, and had a chat with one of the paramedics. What has surprised everybody is that this important service relies on goodwill and donations for funding. Incredible! The children decided that they wished to do something to help the cause and decided to open a market at the school! The pupils themselves organized all this, - stalls, hundred square, nail painting, potatoes, books, and hundreds of cakes! Jonsi was delighted to receive a cheque for £300 towards the Air Ambulance! Excellent! A special thanks also to Mr Williams who generously contributed towards our children’s efforts. Mr Gerallt Williams realises more than anybody how essential this service is as he was recently transported to Ysbyty Gwynedd in an air ambulance.

Visit by Mr. Dilwyn Pritchard
Visit by Mr. Dilwyn PritchardWe welcomed Mr. Dilwyn Pritchard from Rachub`s History Club to talk to Years 3 and 4 about the amazing man from Rachub who built a plane early in the 20thc. As we are currently studying ‘flying high’, it was a totally natural step to learn more about the man from Tyddyn Canol who was the son of an ordinary quarryman, who became an expert in several fields, including maths, physics, geology and especially aeronautics! Think about him building sections of an aeroplane in a shed in the garden, and flying to the summit of Moel Faban, to see his creations! Once, during the War period, he was arrested by the police, as they thought he was a German spy! However, he managed to fly his aeroplane over Llanddona beach in Anglesey! Search for the monument recording the dramatic event; it is still there on the beach as a keepsake! An enjoyable time was spent in the company of Mr. Pritchard and he commended the high standard of the questioning! Well done children and thanks very much Dilwyn! It is very pleasing that the pupils of Ysgol Llanllechid have such a great relationship with the local History club.

Father of Sion Blewyn Coch
Jonsi a`r Ambiwlans AwyrWell, what fun we had learning about Mic the fox, father of Sion Blewyn Coch! Mic lived on Penybryn hill and was a pet to the great grandfather and mother of Robin Llywelyn, and great, great grandfather and mother to Mared Llew and Elin! Mic was mischievous and smart in his read coat and white waistcoat and people visited from far and wide to admire him! There`s a graet story about Mic taking a sweet from the mouth of J.O Williams, and he managed to escape from his shed and one dau killed all the policeman’s hens, who lived next door! What a calamity!

Ysgol Llanllechid`s Got Talent
At the end of term, a fun day was held at Ysgol Llanllechid when all the pupils had an opportunity to participate in Talent Llechid. There were two aims to the day; firstly, to display any talent in front of the rest of the pupils and secondly to fund-raise towards a Muddy Mountain School scheme in Ethiopia to support pupils in that part of the world. We are extremely proud that Matthew and his family are going there to work and help out over the Christmas holidays. £200 has been raised towards this good cause and thanks to Mr Huw Edward Jones and the School Council for organizing all this. An excellent day was had. We all took a few minutes to think about our fellow-men who find themselves in difficult circumstances.

The Welsh Language
Recently, the pupils have studied the history of Welsh Language, and have learnt learn about all the setbacks that it has suffered throughout the years. There was considerable discussion of the fact that, according to the Census held in 2011; 562,000 people spoke Welsh;19% of the population. As we know, the target by 2050 is to ensure a million Welsh speakers!
When studying our language, it was learnt that Welsh stems from the Breton, and is very closely related to the Cornish and Breton language. By now, we are very aware of the 1536 Act of Union, and its purpose, namely: to make Wales a part of England, thus completely ignoring the culture of Wales. This act inevitably had a far-reaching impact on the Welsh. But things changed in 1588, when Bishop William Morgan translated the Bible into Welsh. Despite that, another setback was imposed by three barristers: Johnson, Lingen and Symons. They carried out a survey of Wales travelling throughout the country and looking at the schools and Sunday schools. Their report appeared in blue books on April Fool’s day 1847 and were called, as we know, as Treason of the Blue Books. The next setback? Well, the Welsh Not, and this system was introduced in 1850, and we are well aware of that story where children were severly punished for speaking Welsh. Thank heavens for individuals such as Syr Ifan ab Owen Edwards who saw the injustice and who established Urdd Gobaith Cymru in 1922. The date, 1939 is also worth remembering; the year in which the first Welsh school was established in Wales. There is, of course, much more to our history than this, but we hugely enjoy exploring our past. Last but not least, we must mention the actor Llion Williams, who visited our school and made an impression on the pupils and teachers alike through his skilful acting and performance.

Christmas Shows
Sioeau NadoligFive Christmas productions were held, and all were worth seeing! It was wonderful to listen to the Nursery Group pupils singing their songs. It was the Nursery class` turn and it and they presented the Nativity story. Years 1 and 2; Mrs Wilson and Mrs Rona Williams classes performed at the local chapel. Mrs Helen Williams was thanked for her generosity and there was an opportunity to draw attention to the happy collaboration between Carmel Chapel and Ysgol Llanllechid. Mr Dylan Davies, Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen was also thanked for the use of Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen hall to stage the Junior Department show. It was a memorable evening with all the pupils at their best as Sandra Goch escaped into the forest due to the evil of an evil woman called Rhosyn Coch! Eventually, she is forced to marry Cuthbert Coch, although she is in love with George Huws; the best footballer in Wales! To get rid of the magic, she had to discover: red kite feathers; red lipstick; the fur of the red fox and blood from the Red Rose itself! An excellent show! Thanks to everybody for their hard work and to the pupils for giving of their best to ensure such an excellent production yet again this year!

Caban Hud Show - Pontio
Sioe Caban Hud - Pontio“Daeth Nadolig fel arferol, daeth fel yn y dyddiau gynt…” Did you know that a letter can be posted to Santa Claus in a magic box and sent along to the slate cabin? That was what Sian did! There, in the cabin, was a quarryman who could strike a bargain with the help of Robin Glyn. There he used his chisel and hammer to create a book from the rock before immersing it in a magic spell with Gavin’s help, and turning into a magical book. Who better to wrap this magical gift for Sian than Mared Llew, who it has to be said, is quite an expert on wrapping presents! Who would think that a quarryman from by-gone days could assit Santa Claus to make Christmas presents? A delightful and simple tale about a little girl and stories from the quarry echoing through it all.

line

Llanberis Santa Claus Train
Trên Sion Corn LlanberisThere was huge excitement as the children went on a Santa Claus train trip to meet the man himself! The fun started when the children were addressed by Santa Claus dwarfs and they had to search for Carwyn the Dwarf, who was, according to some, hiding in the hedges! It was a joy to meet Santa Claus, and the smile on the faces of all the children when coming out of the cave with a deighful to see!

Christmas Activities
The end of term was full to the brim of all kinds of activities, including parties; welcoming visitors; and everyone had an opportunity to be creative. The Christmas lunch was a joyous affair, and, without doubt, one of the highlights was this year`s Christmas Fair! It was a fun-filled evening with Santa Claus dwarfs searching high and low for more gifts during the evening! Thanks to Anti Gillian and her team in the kitchen for the excellent food, including turkey and mince pies! It was pleasing to see the entire community coming together and to see several stall-keepers from the local area selling their wares. Thanks to everybody for a pleasant evening, and to Owain for playing the trumpet!

Yr Iaith Gymraeg (English coming soon ...)
Yr Iaith GymraegYn ddiweddar, mae`r disgyblion wedi bod yn astudio hanes yr Iaith Gymraeg ac yn dysgu am yr holl ergydion sydd wedi dod i`w rhan ar hyd y blynyddoedd. Bu cryn drafod y ffaith mai, yn ôl y Cyfrifiad yn 2011; 562,000 o bobl oedd yn siarad Cymraeg, sef 19% o`r boblogaeth. Fel y gwyddom, y nôd erbyn 2050 yw sicrhau fod miliwn o bobl yn siarad Cymraeg! Wrth astudio ein hiaith, dysgwyd fod y Gymraeg yn deillio o`r Frythoneg, ac mae`n perthyn yn agos iawn i`r Gernyweg a`r Llydaweg.

Erbyn hyn, rydym yn ymwybodol iawn o`r Ddedf Uno 1536, a`i diben, sef: gwneud Cymru yn rhan o Loegr, gan ddiystyru diwylliant Cymru a`i hiaith yn gyfangwbwl. Wrth reswm, cafodd y ddeddf hon effaith bellgyrhaeddol ar y Cymry. Ond, daeth tro ar fyd yn 1588, pan gyfieithodd yr Esgob William Morgan y Beibl i`r Gymraeg. Er gwaethaf hyn, daeth ergyd arall, a hynny ar ffurf tri bargyfreithiwr: Johnson, Lingen a Symons. Gwnaethant arolwg ar Gymru gan deithio drwy`r wlad a chraffu ar yr ysgolion a`r ysgolion sul. Ymddangosodd eu hadroddiad mewn llyfrau gleision ar ddiwrnod Ffwl Ebrill 1847 ac fe`i hadwaenwyd, fel y gwyddom, yn Frad y Llyfrau Glesion. Un o`r ergydion nesaf? Wel, y Welsh Not, a chafodd y sytem hon ei chyflwyno yn 1850, a gwyddom yn dda am yr hanes hwnnw. Diolch byth am bobl fel Syr Ifan ab Owen Edwards a welodd yr anghyfiawnder ac a sefydlodd Urdd Gobaith Cymru yn 1922. Mae`r dyddiad, 1939 hefyd yn un gwerth i`w gofio, sef, y flwyddyn y sefydlwyd yr ysgol Gymraeg gyntaf yng Nghymru. Dim ond megis codi cwr y llen ydan ni wedi llwyddo i`w wneud hyd yma; mae llawer mwy na hyn i`n hanes wrth gwrs, ond rydym yn cael blas garw yn ymbalfalu a thyrchio i mewn i`n gorffennol. Cyn cloi, rhaid crybwyll yr actor Llion Williams a ddaeth draw i`n hysgolion ac a wnaeth argraff ar y plant a`r athrawon fel ei gilydd drwy ei actio medrus a chyflwyno perfformiad a fydd yn aros yn y côf am byth!

Actio, Canu a Dawnsio (English coming soon ...)
Cafodd disgyblion Blwyddyn 5 y fraint o gymryd rhan yn yr agoriad swyddogol Llwybr Llechi Eryri yn Neuadd Ogwen yn ddiweddar. Roedd yn ddigwyddiad pwysig iawn, gydag enwogion fel Dafydd Wigley a Rhys Mwyn, ymysg eraill, yn siaradwyr gwadd; cwmni teledu yn recordio’r holl gyffro, a dwy o’n disgyblion, sef Chenai a Mari Watcyn yn cael eu cyfweld gan Gerallt Pennant ar gyfer rhaglen HENO.

Bu’r plant yn gysylltiedig â’r prosiect ers tua blwyddyn, a chafwyd cyd-weithio gwych rhwng yr ysgol â Ms Anita Daimond, y Swyddog Cyswllt Ysgolion. Roedd y cyfan wedi’i glymu’n hwylus gyda thema’r dosbarth ar y pryd, sef hanes lleol, a chyfnod Streic y Penrhyn ac mae`r gwaith wedi cael cydnabyddiaeth gan ESTYN fel arfer Rhagorol yn un o`u cyhoeddiadau diweddar. Roedd y disgyblion wedi bod yn astudio hanes Côr Merched Bethesda yn y cyfnod, - sef y côr a deithiodd ar hyd a lled Prydain yn cynnal cyngherddau i godi arian i deuluoedd y streicwyr. Roeddent yn perfformio sioe gerdd wefreiddiol am yr hanes. Lluniwyd y sgript, gan Mrs Marian Jones, oedd yn seiliedig ar wybodaeth wreiddiol a gafwyd gan Mrs Brenda Wyn Jones, gan mai nain Mrs B.W Jones oedd Mary Ellen Parry, arweinyddes y côr! Wrth gwrs, cafwyd perfformiadau bendigedig gan y plant ar lwyfan Neuadd Ogwen, - canu gwych ac actio ardderchog! Roedd yn brofiad hyfryd i bawb! Diolch i Mrs Marian Jones a Mr Huw Edward Jones. Diolch hefyd i Dilwyn Llwyd am ein cynorthwyo gyda`r trefniadau yn Neuadd Ogwen ac i Gor y Penrhyn am gael benthyg y piano.

Gwobrau Ffotograffiaeth Bywyd Gwyllt Prydain 2017 (English coming soon ...)
Gwobrau Ffotograffiaeth Bywyd Gwyllt Prydain 2017 Enillydd categori Dan 12: Oliver Teasdale, Ysgol Llanllechid. Ym mis Mai 2017, ymwelodd Ollie ag Ynys Sgogwm, oddi ar Arfordir Sir Benfro, gyda’i Dad am wythnos o wylio adar a ffotograffiaeth. Tra’n eistedd mewn man cudd, sylwodd Ollie ar aderyn pâl yn dod allan o’i wâl, ond roedd wedi ei guddio gan gludlys oedd yn tyfu o amgylch. Gan ymateb yn chwim, llwyddodd Ollie i dynnu lluniau o’r aderyn pâl. Mae’r gystadleuaeth genedlaethol hon yn dathlu pryderthwch ac amrywiaeth bywyd gwyllt Prydain. Cynhaliwyd y seremoni wobrwyo, oedd yn cael ei chyflwyno gan arlywydd yr RSPB a’r cyflwynydd teledu, Miranda Krestovnikoff yn y Mall Galleries, Llundain ar 8fed Tachwedd 2017. British Wildlife Photography Awards 2017

OllieWinner Under 12 catergory Oliver Teasdale, Ysgol Llanllechid
In May 2017 Ollie went to the Island of Skokholm, off the Pembrokeshire coast, with his Dad for a week of bird watching and photography. They saw plenty of birds during the week. These included; Storm Petrel, Manx Shearwater, Wheatear, Peregrine Falcon, Guillemot, Razorbill and Puffin.
There were many Puffins out at sea, but it was a little early in the season for them to be ashore getting ready for the nesting season ahead. Some birds, however did come ashore, often popping into their burrows, or standing outside of their burrow for short periods before going back to the rafts of Puffins out at sea.
Whilst sat in one hide, Ollie spotted a Puffin sneaking out of its burrow, but it was well hidden by the Sea Campion that was growing around the burrow entrance. With quick reactions Ollie got his camera ready and caught a few shots of the Puffin as it emerged. Dad was really impressed, a little envious, but really amazed at the moment in time that Ollie had caught on camera.
Ollie`s Dad entered the photograph into the British Wildlife Photography Awards under 12 category competition. This national competition celebrates the beauty and diversity of British wildlife. It was with great delight that we found out about Ollie winning this category.
The presentation ceremony, hosted by RSPB President and TV presenter Miranda Krestovnikoff took place at the Mall Galleries, London on the 8th November 2017.
Ollie mingled with many of Britain`s finest wildlife photographers before collecting his prize. It was a wonderful evening and a great celebration of photographers and wildlife.
More information can be found at www.bwpawards.org
Ollie`s picture appeared in the Sunday Times, who called the picture PEEK-A-BOO in November 5th edition - page 27

Croeso cynnes i Ms Lliwen a Ms Thelma, sydd eisioes wedi setlo hefo ni yn arbennig o dda.

Cafwyd cefnogaeth aruthrol gan yr ardal gyfan, a diolchwn i chi i gyd am fod mor barod i gefnogi Ysgol Llanllechid, blwyddyn ar ôl blwyddyn. Mae eich caredigrwyd a`ch haelioni fel ardal destun rhyfeddod dro ar ol tro aq gwerthfawrogir y cyfan yn fawr iawn. Diolch arbennig i’r Pwyllgor gweithgar am eu holl waith diflino wrth drefnu a pharatoi ar gyfer y diwrnod mawr ac i bawb a fu’n helpu yn y gegin ac ar y stondinau amrywiol.

Gwnaethpwyd elw o dros £1,800, sy’n swm anrhydeddus i’w ychwanegu at gronfa’r ysgol. Bydd yr arian yn ddefnyddiol iawn ar gyfer cynorthwyo gyda’n teithiau addysgol yn y dyfodol. Diolch yn fawr unwaith eto i bob un ohonoch.

Year 4 visited Glynllifon to learn about people who work with animals, and rural life. There was an opportunity to fish, and see birds and hunting dogs being trained. Pupils learnt about animals such as the red squirrel, owls, pheasants, otters and all kinds of creatures. An excellent day!

Over 30 pupils were very busy singing and acting out stories based on the lives of special characters from the area, namely Madam Chips, Robat Jôs Gwich, William Morgan, William Griffith Hen Barc and William Ellis Williams. The children were on top form, and the audience were thrilled to bits. Thanks to everybody and thanks to Mrs Marian Jones for her work.

Film Night

It was pleasing to see the school hall full-up for two screenings of films as part of the programme of the friends of the school. We are always grateful to the friends for their fund-raising efforts for the school and this latest idea proved very popular with the pupils. And judging from rumours, the popcorn was also delicious!

Mrs Helen Williams

Mrs Helen Williams is held in very high regard at Ysgol Llanllechid; she is a very special person and salt of the earth! But Mrs Williams also holds the pupils in high regard as well, because she recently visited the reception class. And do you know what? She had a basket in her hands, full of teddies that Mrs Williams had knitted for the children. Each teddy had taken around an hour for Mrs Williams to knit – quite an effort and all because she had been charmed by the pupils contributions in concerts held during the year. All the children were grateful to her, and one had gone to a great deal of trouble to write a card expressing special thanks to Mrs Williams. Yes indeed, Ela Lois Williams had written a beautiful card to Mrs Williams with the special handwriting in the colours of a ribbon around the neck of the teddy. Thanks to Mrs Williams for her act of kindness and to Ela for her magnificent effort.

Llangollen Eisteddfod

On a scorching hot summer’s day, years 2 and 3 visited the Llangollen International Eisteddfod to experience a taste of global culture and music. They spent an enjoyable session listening to music from Peru, and were awe-struck by the traditional instruments being played. The lovely bracelets displayed by natives from India also made a huge impression on them. Others were awe-struck by the owls and all the dancing, and meeting children from other schools! But undoubtedly, one of the day’s highlights was enjoying delicious ice cream in the extreme heat!

line

Llyn Brenig

Years 2 and 3 went on special trip to Llyn Brenig to learn a great deal about the natural world. They went into the pool in search of insects, closely peering through the microscope, as well as walking around the lake. They also received a session learning about re-cycling and the importance of that effort in order to protect our world and the environment.

New Parents

An enjoyable afternoon was spent in early June, as the school welcomed prospective pupils and their parents. The hall was full and an enjoyable afternoon was spent with Mrs Davies Jones providing information about the school as well as stories told by the pupils. The infants were busy playing and painting, and they were a joy to behold! We extend a warm welcome to you all to Ysgol Llanllechid.

Visit by Mrs Tegid’s class to Gelli Gyffwrdd

plantRecently, as part of their Science work on Forces, year 5 pupils went on a trip to Gelli Gyffwrdd. The Park owner, Mr Bristow visited us for the first hour to escort us around the park discussing the role of forces in the park’s work. We listened to a presentation on how forces impact on the green Dragon Rollercoaster work. He also talked about the quarryman’s ideas years ago as to moving coal and slate. He also mentioned the park’s method of using clean energy such as rain water and solar energy. The children were awe-struck and wished to ask more questions. The pupils then had an opportunity to go on their favourite attractions. Undoubtedly, the most popular attractions was the new water slide, the solar slide and small carts. A special thanks to Miss Gwen and Adie for their help.

The Zip Wire

plantIsn’t it wonderful that the school is located in a pleasant spot near a wealth of natural resources! It was an excellent experience for the pupils to walk from school to Zip World! Two representatives from the team visited us to discuss the wire. It was discussed that lightweight individuals had to have additional weight placed on them in order to move them along! It was also seen how air friction in the form of a sail assisted to slow down the wire. Under the careful leadership of Lliwen Jones, we had an interesting walk there and back along a section of Lon Las Ogwen. A fantastic way to get to know our locality.

It was a privilege to welcome the talented Gwilym Bowen Rhys to the school to perform for our pupils. It was a fun-filled afternoon and the pupils joining in to sing the old favourites - Defaid William Morgan, Bys Meri Ann etc and it was lovely to hear the national anthem being sung with passion at the end of the afternoon! These were Gwilym Bowen Rhys words to us on leaving:
“It was a pleasure to sing with the children,- they are excellent and passionate singers! I hope that I will have the opportunity to pay a return visit when I will reside a short distance away soon! ”
Thank you Sir! Excellent!

Mrs Cranham’s class

plantOn Wednesday, 10th May the big day had arrived at last! Alena and Harry’s wedding day! Our friendship service. The children had been preparing for the wedding for some time. They dressed in their best clothes and with the sun shining brightly, everybody walked to Capel Carmel. The doors were wide open and Mrs Helen Williams was there to welcome us! All were shown to their seats by the escorts, and the groom and Wil, his best man, was in the Set Fawr. Mrs Williams quietly sang the march on the organ, accompanied by our group of children on the percussion instruments. Alena was escorted by Cara and Talia, her maids and her friend Charlie! Mrs Cranham then led the service. Two hymns were sung with Mrs Helen Williams on the organ. In the afternoon, we had another feast in the school garden, refreshments baked by Ms Rhian and the pupils!

Reception class – Visit to Storiel in Bangor

plantDon’t be surprised if you notice Ysgol Llanllechid Reception class going around sprinkling tea leaves around the place whilst helping with the cleaning at home! You will find nothing better to get rid of floor dust! This was one of the incredible facts learnt at a cleaning and purification workshop held at Storiel in Bangor. As part of our theme Llanast yn y Llaid, the class went to see how people used to clean the house and wash clothing in bygone days.
One group of pupils received an introduction to the history of washing clothes and saw old local pictures of people at work cleaning and washing whilst another group were busy as household maids and servant! They dressed up in white aprons and caps and the boys white collars, a waistcoat and stable cap.
Some had to set the fire in the parlour, others had to use a feather brush to lift the dust and cobwebs. Some had the task of shaking the mats; others scoured tables, whilst some cleaned the brasses using lemon and vinegar until they shone like a new shilling. However, the most fun was to be had in the laundry, when the children filled the wash tub with water, before scouring the clothes whiter than white, with green soap on the scouring board, before using the dolly in the tub. They used traditional pegs to hold the whites in place on the clothes line!
Suffice to say that the children were exhausted on the way home, following the hard afternoon`s work that was a reality in bygone days.

High Sheriff of Gwynedd Award

plantWe were privileged to receive an award from Mr Peter Harlech Jones, High Sherriff for Gwynedd for the work done by Ysgol Llanllechid to tackle bullying and generate a safe and friendly learning environment. It was also a recognition of the KiVa programme at the school – our anti-bullying programme, and the school has had numerous opportunities to cascade the good practices with other schools and with teachers throughout Britain at various forums. The programme recognizes that all bullies are weak, and that he/she only gains strength when others listen and support or choose not to do anything! Ysgol Llanllechid has been in close partnership with UNCW Bangor over a five year period on these aspects, and we wish to acknowledge the particular support provided by Dr. Suzy Clarkson and Professor Judy Hutchings.

Appearing in the photo are School Council members Maia, Ellie, Derek and William with the High Sherriff Peter Harlech Jones and Mr Huw Edward Jones, who coordinates the work at the school.

Machu Pichu

plantOn Wednesday, 15 th February, we had the pleasure to welcome Mrs Menna Jones, grandmother of Hari and Hana, to Mrs Nerys Tegid’s class to talk about her recent visit to the incredible site of Machu Pichu in Peru! It is likely that Machu Pichu was built by Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui, the ninth emperor of the Inca tribe! The location, that is 7,970 feet (2,430m), above sea level, is on the eastern side of the Andes, and according to Mrs Menna Jones, is recognized as one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world! The children were amazed at the Incas ability to create a village in such a remote and isolated location. There was an opportunity to discuss an ancient way of life, and to consider life on the high peaks, when thinking about life in a by gone era. Thanks to Mrs Jones for inspiring our pupils! A good teacher’s skills are never forgotten!!

plantMorus y Gwynt and Ifan y Glaw, not to mention a snow flurry, were not to disrupt the fun experienced on Shrove Tuesday of making pancakes! All the children had an opportunity to measure and mix the ingredients well and then watch Miss Rachel sweating above the frying pan creating plates and plates of golden yellow pancakes for the children to gobble up. A real feast! It provided a good opportunity for the pupils to practice sing Modryb Elin Ennog for our St David’s Day service.
The pupils came to school on March 1st smartly dressed in a combination of traditional Welsh costume, the colours of the Welsh flag and those of the national football and rugby teams to celebrate the day of our patron saint. The pupils gave an excellent performance at the St David’s Day service.

Slate Path Trail

plantYsgol Llanllechid has been associated with the Eryri Slate Path Trail, that will be opening in October 2017. Search the internet for further information! Mrs Marian Jones class was invited to visit Llanberis Museum to participate in a day of various and engaging activities. This was the last event in a local history project, and it was pleasing to join three other primary schools in the county, - each representing the various slate areas. The highlight for pupils at Llanllechid was to perform an original musical based on the history of the Strike Women Choir. And what a show this is! Thanks to Mrs Marian Jones for rehearsing the pupils and for the original scripting. The audience were thrilled after seeing such a show, - some were even in tears! Very well done, children!

Cwmni’r Fran Wen

plantMrs Marian Jones and Mrs Nerys Tegid’s classes watched an excellent theatric performance by ‘Cwmni’r Fran Wen’. The show was called `Sigl di Gwt’ and focussed on the story of families and refugees from different viewpoints. At the end of the performance,a conversation was held between the actors and the pupils, and this added to the experience for all. The pupils excellently responded verbally and in pictures through producing Art work, discussing the performance with the actors! An enjoyable experience!

St David’s Day

plantIt was an eventful day where the pupils had opportunities to cook Welsh foods e.g. leek soup, welsh cakes etc and learn about St David. However, what will remain with us for a long time will be the pupils` mighty performances! First of all it was the turn of the Cylch Meithrin pupils; most of them are only two years old! Each sang at the top of his/her voice and were very smart in their costumes! The standard had been set, and every class from the senior to the most junior gave excellent presentations. A memorable day – thanks to everybody; to the entire staff for their good work, and especially to Mr Huw Jones for providing such gifted accompaniment. Thanks also to parents and friends of the school for the support and assistance.

Internnational Day

plantOn February 15th, an International Day was held that had been organized by the School Council. Each class was allocated a specific country to study and it was pleasing to observe the pupils having gone to such trouble to wear clothing associated with these countries. They enthusiastically discussed the countries and all kinds of activities were held in the classes. In addition, energetic karate sessions were held in the hall and the pupils attentively listened to the Sensei. Thanks to the School Council for organizing and assisting to raise £190 towards Alec Jones Memorial School in Ghana, following Mrs D Jones recent visit to the school.

The Senoritas from Spain a joy to behold!

Mae Cymru wedi gefeillio gyda Lesotho a dolen arbennig rhwng y ddwy wlad yn dilyn y cyswllt cyntaf nôl ym 1985. Dangosodd lawer o ffotograffau o’i ymweliad ynghyd â nifer o arteffactau ee gwisg draddodiadol, het Basotho ac ysgub. Sioe Nadolig – Cynllwyn Canslo’r Nadolig (Welsh only)

Cafodd y gynulleidfa gref yn Neuadd Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen eu cludo mewn amser yn ôl i ddechrau’r ganrif ddiwethaf ar y noson hon ym mis Rhagfyr. Dosbarthiadau Mrs Marian Jones, Mrs Nerys Tegid, Mr Stephen Jones a Mr Huw Jones oedd yn perffromio, ac roedd hon yn sioe wreiddiol, wefreiddiol, wedi ei seilio yng nghyfnod Streic Chwarel y Penrhyn yn y flwyddyn 1901.

Dilyn hynt a helynt un teulu penodol oedd yr edau oedd yn gwau drwy`r cyfan, ac roedd hi`n ofynnol i`r teulu bach hwnnw feddwl sut i oresgyn sefyllfaoedd anodd, heriol oedd yn eu hwynebu; sefyllfaoedd real o`r cyfnod – ee y ferch hynaf yn canu yn y côr merched gan deithio ar hyd a lled Prydain er mwyn codi arian; y tad yn symud i dde Cymru er mwyn chwilio am waith yn y pyllau glo; a’r ferch oedd yn cwrdd â ffrindiau newydd mewn ysgol newydd ac yn gorfod symud i`r ysgol honno oherwydd y sefyllfaoedd oedd yn codi. Ac yn gysgod ar y cyfan oll roedd gorchymyn ffug yr Arglwydd Penrhyn i ganslo’r Nadolig.
Cafwyd perffomriadau arbennig gan yr holl blant – yn geirio yn glir ac yn actio a chanu hyd eithaf eu gallu! Gwelwyd disgyblion oedd wedi dechrau yn Ysgol Llanllechid yn dair mlwydd oed, â dim gafael ar yr iaith Gymraeg, yn perfformio yn hollol huawdl yn yr iaith.
Noson wefreiddiol yn wir, a chymaint o bobl yn cysylltu gyda`r ysgol i ganmol y safon. Diolch i’r staff a`r plant am eu gwaith caled ac i`r rhieni am eu cymorth a`u cefnogaeth. Bydd y sioe hon yn aros yn ein côf am amser maith, a pha ffordd well o ddysgu`r disgyblion am eu hanes nag actio`r cymeriadau, a throedio ar hyd eu llwybrau. Wrth gwrs, roedd y sgript a geiriau`r caneuon yn gwbwl wreiddiol! Dyna beth yw dawn!

Y Pwdin Nadolig! (English soon...)

Oeddech chi`n gwybod fod Pwdin Dolig anferth wedi dod i Fethesda yn y flwyddyn 1901?! Do, bu Blwyddyn 4 yn ymchwilio i hanes y ‘Pwdin ‘Dolig Anferthol’ hwn a ddaeth i`r ardal yn ystod cyfnod y Streic Fawr. Bu llawer o holi a stilio, cyn mynd ati i E-bostio Dr J. E. Hughes er mwyn dysgu mwy am y digwyddiad hanesyddol arbennig. Yna, cafwyd cyfle i chwilota yn yr Archifdy, a darganfod erthygl yn yr Herald Gymraeg yn sôn am y pwdin yn cyrraedd ‘stesion’ Bethesda mewn 27 cist fawr, - a’r cyfan yn pwyso dros dair tunnell! Roedd y pwdin wedi ei bacio’n daclus mewn tuniau o un, dau a thri phwys, - gyda’r cyfarwyddiadau wedi eu cofnodi’n daclus ar bob tun. Rhodd gan gwmni John Hill a’i fab, Ashton under Lyne, oedd y pwdin. Roedd rheolwr eu cwmni wedi clywed am y streic fawr ac eisiau gwneud rhywbeth i helpu trigolion Bethesda, a pha ffordd well na chreu`r pwdin Nadolig arbennig hwn! Bu’r plant yn ymchwilio ar y We i geisio darganfod mwy o wybodaeth, ac o ganlyniad, cysylltwyd â Hill’s Bakery. Dychmygwch y syndod a gafwyd pan dderbyniwyd llythyr gan Hill`s Bakery yn dweud mai hen, hen daid y perchennog presennol oedd John Hill, a`i bod yn gwybod am y stroi hon! Mae`r cwmni am gynnwys ein llythyr ar eu gwefan y Nadolig hwn. Felly, mae`r cysylltiad wedi ail agor, dros ganrif yn ddiweddarch! Dyma beth yw addysg go iawn – gwersi hanes perthnasol am y gymuned leol a chyndeidiau ein disgyblion!

Addurno ffenest Siop Ogwen (English soon...)

Mae rhai o`r disgyblion hynaf wrthi`n brysur yn paratoi gwaith Celf er mwyn addurno ffenest y siop hon, a beth dybiwch chi fydd i`w weld yno`n fuan?! Pwdin `Dolig!

Noson Stwff a Straeon y Chwarel (English soon...)

Cynhaliwyd noson hynod ddiddorol yn ein hysgol yn ddiweddar ar y cyd gydag aelodau o Gôr Meibion y Penrhyn. Pwrpas y noson oedd hel pob math o `stwff` at ei gilydd, gan gynnwys recordiadau o drigolion yr ardal yn hel atgofion am fywyd yn ystod oes aur y chwareli. Bu`r disgyblion wrthi`n brysur yn croesawu`r ymwlewyr, sgwrsio a gwarndo ar eu straeon, sganio, cofnodi ar fapiau ac wrth gwrs yn gweini panad i bawb. Mae`r weithgaredd hon yn rhan o brosiect Llwybr Llechi Eryri a bydd y `stwff` a gasglwyd at ei gilydd yn cael ei osod ar ap ffôn, a fydd yn gydymaith i deithwyr wrth iddynt grwydro ar lwybrau drwy bentrefi Rachub, Llanllechid a Bethesda. Diolch yn fawr i Sian Shakespear am ei chymorth ac i bawb a gyfrannodd at lwyddiant y noson. Gweler y lluniau ar ein gwefan.

Dr Ed Rowe (English soon...)

Rydym yn ffodus fel ysgol fod gennym rieni sydd yn barod i gyfrannu eu harbenigedd i gyfoethogi addysg ein plant. Yn ôl yn y Gwanwyn fe ddaeth Ms Karen Rowe, mam Ursula i’r dosbarth i sôn am ei gwaith yn Kenya a rhannau eraill o`r Affrig. Y mis hwn fe ddaeth tad Ursula, Dr Ed Rowe i siarad gyda’r disgyblion am Wyddoniaeth pridd gan ein bod wedi bod yn astudio planhigion a chynefinoedd. Cafwyd prynhawn difyr dros ben a’r dosbarth yn byrlymu wrth arbrofi gyda graddfa pH. Yn dilyn yr ymweliad, bu’r disgyblion yn ysgrifennu cyfarwyddiadau manwl er mwyn mynd ati yn y dyfodol i lunio arbrawf tebyg. Diolch eto i Dr Rowe am roi ei amser ac am sbarduno gwyddonwyr y dyfodol!

Canolfan Llyn Brenig (English soon...)

Fel rhan o waith y dosbarth ar ynni, daeth Arfona Evans o Ganolfan Llyn Brenig i wneud cyflwyniad ar Arbed Ynni i ddisgyblion dosbarth Mrs Tegid. Canolfan i ymwelwyr yw Llyn Brenig a ariennir gan Ddŵr Cymru. Yn ystod y sgwrs, bu Arfona yn trafod y gylched ddwr a phwysleisio yr angen i arbed dwr. Yn ogystal, cafodd y disgyblion gyfle i wisgo i fyny fel cymeriadau i hyrwyddo gwaredu sbwriel mewn modd cyfrifol. Ei chenadwri oedd: rhowch sbwriel yr ystafell ymolchi a’r gegin yn y bin, ac nid i lawr y draen, lle mae’n achosi problemau. Yn sgil hyn, trefnwyd taith ddifyr i ganolfan Llyn Brenig.

line

Oriel Môn (English soon...)

Orielau yw thema disgyblion blwyddyn 6 yr hanner tymor hwn, ac roedd pawb yn llawn cyffro wrth fynd ar ymweliad ag Oriel Mon i astudio gwaith yr artistiaid Charles Tunnicliffe a Kyffin Williams. Cafwyd bore prysur o greu dan arweiniad Ms Anna Pritchard. Mae disgyblion Ysgol Llanllechid yn hynod ffodus o gael eu dysgu gan Ms Anna Pritchard ac mae’n werth gweld y gwaith Celf sy’n cael ei gynhyrchu. Diolch Ms Anna am gyfoethogi profiadau’r disgyblion yn yr Oriel yn yr un modd.

line

Coginio (English soon...)

Braint oedd croesawu Mr Guillano Malvasi a`i wraig, Mrs Olwena Malvasi, sy`n daid i Hana a Harri i goginio bwydydd Eidalaidd i ddisgyblion dosbarthiadau Mrs Llinos Wilson a Mrs Rona Williams. Mae Guillano yn enedigol o`r Eidal a chawsom hanesion difyr am sut y daeth i Gymru a`i blentyndod yn yr Eidal. Roedd wedi coginio llond sosban anferth o sbageti bolonês ac wedi paratoi ‘antipasti’ i ddod i`r ysgol. Yn ôl y plant, hwn oedd y bolonês gorau ‘rioed ! Cyn i`r sesiwn ddod i ben, dysgwyd beth oedd lliwiau’r faner a sut i gyfri i ddeg mewn Eidaleg. Grazie Guillano!

Roedd arogl hyfryd yn yr ysgol am yr eildro yr wythnos diwethaf pan ddaeth Anti Gillian i ddysgu’r plant sut i wneud bara brith traddodiadol. Roedd rhiad amseru a mesur yn ofalus ac roedd y plantos i gyd wedi eu plesio ac yn llyfu eu gweflau! Mae pawb yn yr ysgol wrth eu boddau gyda bara brith Anti Gillian!!

Piggery Pottery (English soon...)

Cafwyd taith flynyddol fendigedig i Piggery Pottery i`r dosbarth Derbyn, a phawb wedi cael cyfle i addurno`r moch yn eu ffyrdd di-hafal eu hunain! Gwelwyd moch o bob lliw dan haul!!

Castell Penrhyn (English soon...)

I Gastell Penrhyn yr aeth dosbarth Mrs Parry Owen i grwydro o amgylch y gerddi a dysgu enwau`r gwahanol goed, cyn cael cyfle i gymryd rhan mewn gweithgareddau amrywiol. Bu`r disgyblion yn dawnsio, astudio teganau o`r oes Fictoria, gwneud addurniadau mewn dull origami a chreu llygod bach, gan ddefnyddio siwgr eisin!

line

Balchder Bro (English soon...)

Diolchwn i griw Balchder Bro Bethesda am ddod atom i gasglu sbwriel yn y gymuned eto eleni. Casglwyd 21 o fagiau du yn ystod y bore wrth grwydro ar hyd Lon Bach Odro, o amgylch Maes Bleddyn a Phlas Ffrancon. Mae criw gwyrdd Ysgol Llanllechid yn gofyn yn garedig i bawb roi sbwriel yn y bin pob amser! Diolch!

Llanberis
As part of Year 4 work, Mrs Marian Jones` class work on the quarries, the class visited Llanberis for the day, first visiting the quarry museum. They  learnt about the lives of the quarry men, and learnt about the upsetting. Onwards  to Glyn Vivian quarry, where they saw underwater divers appearing on the surface of the lake!  Here are some of the pupils` poems inspired by the experience of being awe- struck by the underwater divers in the quarry’s dark pool and recalling a bye-gone age:
O Dan y  Dŵr
Disgyn yn araf i lyn y chwarel ..
Clywed ysbryd chwarelwyr yn taro`r cŷn.
Clywed swn anadlu trwm
Nofio, nofio drwy’r twneli tywyll
Ofn, ofn y dŵr lliw glas y nos
Chwilio, chwilio am sgerbydau’r chwarelwyr
Gweld dim…
Dim ond clywed lleisiau llwglyd yn canu calon lân.
Mari Watcyn
O Dan y Dŵr
Disgyn yn araf i lyn y chwarel ….
Chwilio am bethau yn y tywyllwch.
Gwrando ar ysbrydion y chwarelwyr,….
Teimlo’r llechi pigog a miniog!
Edrych ar y swigod mawr….
Clywed y cynion a’r morthwylion blinedig yn curo a churo yn ddi-baid,
A lleisiau swynol y chwarelwyr yn canu calon lân.
Gweld sgerbydau diliw yr hen chwarelwyr yn hollti a naddu.
A gwrando ar ysbrydion y penaethiaid cas yn gweiddi ar y chwarelwyr druan.
Erbyn hyn mae’r cyfan yn bell, bell, bell o dan y dŵr du …..!

Rhannu Arfer Dda: KiVa (Welsh only)

Aeth pedwar o ddisgyblion blwyddyn chwech, sef Philip, Danial, Cerys ac Abbie i gynhadledd hyfforddiant ym Mhrifysgol Bangor er mwyn rhannu yr hyn y mae Ysgol Llanllechid yn ei wneud ym maes gwrth-fwlio. Roedd yr hyfforddiant ar gyfer athrawon yn bendodol; rhai o`r tu draw i Glawdd Offa oedd â diddordeb mewn mabwysiadu y rhaglen KiVa. Fe fu’r plant, dan arweiniad Mr Huw Edward Jones, yn egluro yr hyn a wneir yn y gwersi KiVa, a thu hwnt i amser gwersi, yn Ysgol Llanllechid. Siaradodd y plant yn glir a hyderus drwy gyfrwng y Saesneg wrth sôn am sut i adnabod sefyllfaoedd o fwlio; y rhannau gwahanol sy`n codi mewn sefyllfaoedd o`r fath, gan gynnwys y rhai hynny sy`n edrych a gweld, ac yn gwenud dim am y peth! Trafodwyd hefyd sut i ymdopi â seibrfwlio. Diolch i’r plant am ddangos y fath aeddfedrwydd a sensitifrwydd wrth gyflwyno, ac roedd yr adborth gan yr hyfforddeion yn gynnes a chanmoladwy.

A trip along the Slate Trail

2 bersonMrs Marian Jones class recently went on an interesting trip along the slate trail. The trip coordinator was Anita Daimond, and we set off at the old Pantdreiniog Quarry site where we learnt about the busy works that was located there during the Victorian Era. Interesting conversations were had with friends on the way. The children heard how a local man had a serious accident, when he fell head over heels into the huge cavity, when he was only twelve years old! Then, onwards through Cae Gymro farm, and the Ffridd to Moel Faban, where there were interesting slate art activities. (There are a large number of small quarries on the Foel.) Bryn Quarry was a sight to behold and everyone was awe-struck by the magnificent scenery.
Thanks also to Mrs Karen Williams for providing us with photos of Pantdreiniog quarry and for sharing her memories. Mrs Karen Williams described the place in the seventies, when she was a pupil at Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen and the whole history became alive to our pupils. Click here to see more photos

Rhagoriaeth yn Ysgol Llanllechid
Mae’n fraint gennym gyhoeddi fod Ysgol Llanllechid wedi derbyn adroddiad arbennig o dda gan arolygwyr ESTYN ym mis Mawrth eleni a daethpwyd i`r casgliad fod agweddau o ragoriaeth yn ein hysgol, sy`n adlewyrchu`r profiadau deinamig a`r safonau uchel. Mae`r adroddiad yn tystio i ymdrechion ein disgyblion; ymroddiad yr holl staff, cefnogaeth ein rhieni ac arweiniad ein Llywodraethwyr.

Dywed yr adroddiad fod safonau’r ysgol yn y Cyfnod Sylfaen yn y 25% uchaf drwy Gymru ym maes llythrennedd a mathemateg yn ystod y dair blynedd diwethaf. Yn yr un modd, yn yr Adran Iau, mae perfformiad yr ysgol mewn Mathemateg a Gwyddoniaeth yn y 25% uchaf, ac yn uchel ym maes Llythrennedd, yn ystod yr un cyfnod.

Dywedir fod darpariaeth yr ysgol ar gyfer datblygu agweddau ysbrydol a diwylliannol yn gadarn iawn a chanmolwyd ein gwasanaethau a’n sesiynau cyd-addoli yn fawr.

Barnwyd fod y ffordd y mae`r ysgol yn hyrwyddo gofal a lles y disgyblion yn rhagorol.

O ran arweinyddiaeth, dywedir fod arweinyddiaeth y Pennaeth a`r tîm rheoli yn flaengar a chadarn ac yn gosod cyfeiriad strategol clir i ddatblygiad yr ysgol.

Nodwyd fod gan yr ysgol ystod dda o bartneriaethau strategol sy’n ehangu profiadau dysgu’r disgyblion yn llwyddiannus ac sy’n cael effaith arwyddocaol ar eu deilliannau a’u safonau.

Wrth ystyried gwerth am arian, mae’r ysgol yn rhoi gwerth da am arian, yn nhermau deilliannau disgyblion ac ansawdd y ddarpariaeth.

Dywedodd Mr Walter Williams, Cadeirydd y Llywodraethwyr,

“Mae hwn yn adroddiad y gall pob un o randdeiliaid Ysgol Llanllechid ymfalchio ynddo. Ar ran y Llywodraethwyr a`r rhieni, dymunaf longyfarch a diolch i`r brifathrawes a`i staff i gyd am eu holl waith caled a`u hymroddiad. Llongyfarchiadau gwresog ar adroddiad mor dda ac am gyrraedd y safonau uchel.”

“Mae’r arweinydd yn cynllunio’r cwricwlwm ac mae’r staff yn chwarae rhan weithredol gyda’u syniadau a’u mewnbwn yn ddyddiol”

“Mae’r staff yn rheolil ymddygiad plant yn dda iawn”.

Lynne Edwards

Daeth cwmwl tywyll a thon o dristwch dros yr ardal yn ddiweddar, a phawb yn ceisio dygymod â cholled teulu Mr a Mrs Dafydd Griffiths, Dylan, Liam, a Sion bach, sydd ym Mlwyddyn 3, ac sy'n 7 oed. Bu farw mam Sion yn dawel yn ysbyty Walton ar ddydd Sul, Mai 29 yn dilyn llawdriniaethau. Gedy fwlch anferth ar ei hol, nid yn unig ar yr aelwyd, ond yn yr ardal gyfan. Roedd Lynne, neu Cockles, i'w ffrindiau, yn gymeriad dymunol, hwyliog a chlen oedd pob amser yn barod ei gwen a'i sgwrs. Ac, er fod ei hangladd wedi ei gynnal ar Fehefin 7fed, mae'n dal i fod yn anodd credu ein bod wedi colli Lynne. Gobeithiwn yn wir y bydd y teulu a'i holl gydnabod a'i ffrindiau yn cael nerth i wynebu'r dyddiau a'r wythnosau nesaf, ac yn llwyddo i gael rhywfaint o gysur wrth hel atgofion amdani a chofio'r amseroedd da.....A gwyddom fod y gynghanedd: "Cledd a mîn yw colli mam" yn boenus o wir ar adeg fel hon.

Ar ôl bod wrthi`n arlunio`r darlun bendigedig o`r ci defaid, gan efelychu arddull Kyffin Williams, a dysgu`r englyn ar y côf, aeth dosbarth Mrs Marian Jones i wylio taid Erin Jones, Mr Kevin Eccles yn dangos ei ddoniau gyda`i gwn defaid. Roedd Jess a Cadi ar eu gorau, - y ddwy yn gwrando’n astud ar y cyfarwyddiadau. Rhyfeddod oedd deall sut oedd un ast yn dysgu oddi wrth y llall. Roedd Erin yn falch o gael dangos ei dafad hi i weddill y plant, sef yr unig ddafad ddu yn y cae! Diolch yn fawr iawn i Kevin a Wendy Eccles am y croeso, ac am drwytho ein plant mewn sgiliau cefn gwlad.

Roedd hi`n trigo ar lethrau`r Gogarth yn amaethu dros bum mil o flynyddoedd yn ôl, ac mae`r gwybodusion wedi gallu darganfod llawer am ei hanes a`i ffordd o fyw, yn yr oes bellenig honno. Rydym wedi dysgu ei bod rhwng 55 a 65 pan fu farw, a chladdwyd mochyn hefo hi yn y bedd! Roedd Blodwen oddeutu pum troedfedd a dengys ei breichiau ei bod wedi arfer cario nwyddau trwm. Hefyd, yn ddiddorol iawn, gellid dweud mai`r rheswm iddi farw oedd y ffaith ei bod yn dioddef o gancr y fron... Cafwyd cyfle i ymweld â nifer o atyniadau yn ystod y dydd, ac oedd, roedd hi`n ddiwrnod braf o haf! Pawb wedi mwynhau a dysgu llawer! Click here to see the photos

Dysgu am Kenya
Afonydd Cymru a'r byd oedd maes astudiaeth y disgyblion hynaf yn ystod yr hanner tymor hwn. Braint oedd croesawu Karen Brock, sef mam Ursula, sydd wedi treulio amser yn byw yng ngogledd yr Affrig. Croesawyd Mrs Brock i'r dosbarth i siarad gyda'r plant a soniodd am fywyd ar y fferm gan ganolbwyntio ar ffrind iddi oedd yn gweithio fel ffermwraig; dynes arbennig o'r enw Mary. Roedd Mary yn gofalu am ei theulu ac yn gweithio`n galed yn tyfu bwyd ar y fferm. Pan oedd yr hîn yn ffarfriol roedd y cnwd yn lluosog, ond stori hollol wahanol oedd hi mewn sychder. Cawsom fore bendigedig yng nghwmni Karen ac roedd yn agoriad llygad cael cymharu Cymru a Kenya.

Dyma oedd ei gwrwgl personol ef - y cwrwgl yr oedd ef yn ei defnyddio i bysgota a dal eogiaid. Cawsom glywed am lawer o'i anturiaethau difyr yn y cwrwgl, ac ambell gyfrinach hefyd!! Fe fu’r plant, dan arweiniad Mr Huw Edward Jones, yn egluro yr hyn a wneir yn y gwersi KiVa, a thu hwnt i amser gwersi, yn Ysgol Llanllechid. Siaradodd y plant yn glir a hyderus drwy gyfrwng y Saesneg wrth sôn am sut i adnabod sefyllfaoedd o fwlio; y rhannau gwahanol sy`n codi mewn sefyllfaoedd o`r fath, gan gynnwys y rhai hynny sy`n edrych a gweld, ac yn gwenud dim am y peth! Marriage and Bereavement
The events that occurred in December in Cynan’s family were heart-breaking and heart-rending. On Saturday December 12th, Cynan’s mother and father namely Tracy and Geraint Jones got married in the Alaw ward, but, two days later, Geraint passed away. There was a large congregation at the funeral service at Bangor crematorium and his brother, Lesley, paid a worthy tribute to the late Geraint Jones. We send our deepest condolences to Cynan, Tracy Jones, Valerie and Islwyn Jones, Lesley and Gethin Jones and to Dafydd and Gillian Griffith and the entire family on their loss of losing such a special husband, father, son and friend.

We send our warmest regards to Mrs Eirian Jones, Jennifer, Alison and their families on their bereavement in losing a very dear husband, father and grandfather, Dr Robert Jones. It was a privilege to listen to his daughters paying tribute to their father during the funeral service that was held at Bereia Newydd Chapel in Bangor. Dr Jones was a multitalented, exceptional person and will be sorely missed by all. We send our sincere condolences to Eirian; you will certainly be in our thoughts during the coming weeks and months.

Plas Tan y Bwlch and Portmeirion
boyYear 5 and 6 pupils spent a day learning about two well-known figures in the history of Wales - Clough Williams Ellis and Hedd Wyn. At Portmeirion, the children toured this unique village, learning about the architect Clough Williams Ellis’ likes and his dream of creating a location that combined various styles and traditions. At Plas Tan y Bwlch, the pupils learnt about the story of the bardd y gadair ddu. Currently there has been a huge investment in the Ysgwrn and the Ysgwrn will re-open to the public following renovation, next year. There was an opportunity to study artefacts from the home and see a full sized copy of the chair, designed by an artist from Belgium.

Wrexham – Celts Yr 3
plantMrs Bethan Jones` class had an excellent day at the Celtic village at Wrexham last week. After meeting Angharad to hear about the tale of Culhwch ac Olwen, the children dressed up as Celts to join Angharad’s tribe. The clothes consisted of a tunic and shoal and it was impossible to recognize the children as their faces were painted blue! Everybody looked aggressive and frightening, ready to frighten the foe! But, there was no opportunity to relax, as they had to beaver away all day! Knitting, designing a shield, making clay pots, building a round house with a dub, before practicing throwing a javelin towards a target to fight the rebelious Romans! It was an eventful, fun day with many very tired Celts arriving back at Rachub!
“I enjoyed building a wall for the round house with daub namely water, compost, grass and clay.” Elan Jones
“I thought that it was an excellent day, the best, because I have learnt how to knit Celts clothing” Chenai.

Heroes
Mrs Marian Jones` class talks about heroes and super-heroes during this half term. One day, everybody dressed up as heroes and had fun creating shows on the computer! But you can’t imagine who visited the class last week! Owain Glyndwr himself with his banner and sword! Owain Glyndwr answered all the pupils` questions, and everybody were awe-struck by his story. They also learnt about a poem by Iolo Goch singing the praises of Sycharth and the surrounding gardens:
Popty llawn poptu i’r llys,
Perllan, gwinllan ger gwenllys;
Melin deg ar ddifreg ddŵr,
A’i glomendy gloyw maendwr;
Pysgodlyn, cudduglyn cau,
A fo rhaid i fwrw rhwydau;
Amlaf lle, nid er ymliw,
Penhwyaid a gwyniaid gwiw,
A’i dir bwrdd a’i adar byw,
Peunod, crehyrod hoywryw;
Dolydd glân gwyran a gwair,
Ydau mewn caeau cywair,
Parc cwning ein pôr cenedl,
Erydr a meirch hydr, mawr chwedl;
Gerllaw’r llys, gorlliwio’r llall,
Y pawr ceirw mewn parc arall;
Ei gaith a wna pob gwaith gwiw,
Cyfreidiau cyfar ydiw,

Gwirodau bragodau brig,
Pob llyn, bara gwyn a gwin,
A’i gig a’i dân i’w gegin.

Wales Football Team
Following the Wales football team’s recent sweeping success, Mrs Marian Jones class has been studying data about our national heroes. And fair play to Mr Meilyr Owen, who visited the class to talk to the children about national ‘caps’. Then, he gave an excellent skills session, and Ina, his niece, was thrilled to bits to see her grandfather in the class! Many thanks Meilyr! An excellent way to spend our Healthy School day.

Date for your diary!

On Saturday April 23rd 2016 in conjunction with the Eryri Harriers running club we will be holding Ras Moel Wnion (Moel Wnion fell race) at the school. There will be senior and Junior races and all monies raised will go to the school. The PTA have agreed to help with the running of the event and so any offers of assistance to help on the day from parents would be warmly welcomed.

There will be many ways to get involved, from helping with car parking, marshalling, time keeping, and providing cakes for the runners. This will be a great opportunity to raise money for the school so we hope to see as many of you there as possible (either taking part of supporting members of your family).

There is a facebook page where you can keep up to date with the event (https://www.facebook.com/rasmoelwnion) or you can contact the race organiser Ross Roberts (dad of Evie and Harry) on 07834818553 or ross.roberts@bangor.ac.uk for more details.
